What can you do with negative thoughts?

Tara and I spend quite a bit of time helping our clients in sessions figure out a way of calming or controlling their negative thoughts, rather then the other way round. We thought we would just jot down a few that have been mentioned. They all work..

1. Acknowledge, say no thank you and visualise binning them..actually putting your foot on the bin and dusting your hands afterwards

2. Imagine them as an angry dog. If you see an angry dog on your side of the pavement you would acknowledge it and then cross the road to avoid it

3. Switching the radio station. You wouldn’t listen to a negative radio station so why listen to your own negative thoughts. Actually visualise changing channels

4. One of my clients opens her front door and says’ out with you negative thoughts and come in positives..’ It works every time. You could do this using a window too.

5. DISTRACTION. Put the music on and dance to it, play with your children and be totally absorbed in it, anything that will take you away from your own thoughts. Research suggest that it takes just two minutes for any negative thoughts to pass if you distract yourself whole heartily in that time.

We hope the above helps. For more information on how hypnotherapy can help change your thoughts process, please contact Katie for Bath and Corsham on katie@theguthriepractice.co.uk or Tara for Bristol on tara@theguthriepractice.co.uk.localhost:8888/www.theguthriepractice.co.uk.
